The speculation around the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
